Capt. Sky "The little SLATE"
She was born and raised in the keys and never plans on leaving. She was certified at 11 years old and is now planning on continuing the family business. Skyball grew up working at the dive shop.
Sky makes sure to keep Capt. Slate in line! She is a 50 TON USCG licensed captain and a SEI Scuba Diving Instructor. Capt. Sky loves driving the boats, spearfishing, and teaching people how to dive. She also loves having music on the boats and to make your dive trip one you cant forget.
Trick was born and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana. He went to school at Ball State University, where he received a bachelor's of science degree in biology. During his time at Ball State, he decided he wanted to become certified to scuba dive. He took his open water course through the university and he fell in love with the sport right away. He continued on with his scuba education from there on out; taking his advanced diver and divemaster courses, and then interning at the local dive shop post-graduation. He was certified by Scuba Educators International (SEI). He decided he wanted to keep working as a divemaster, so he sent an e-mail to Cpt. Slate, and next thing he knew he was working in the Florida Keys.
Since he began work here, June 3rd 2016, he received his SEI instructor certification. He loves meeting new people on the boats and hearing their stories. He couldn't ask for a better office space miles offshore (except for days when Mother Nature is angry). What he loves most about his job is the multiple opportunities to go diving; each dive brings something new. We absolutely love having TRICK about of the Capt. Slate family.
Dive Master Sara is new to the Captain Slate team, she moved from the OBX of North Carolina. She's East Carolina Alumni, just like Capt. Slate! This pirate is apart of the sea, and can charm all the sea life.
Sara started diving in 2012 and haven't dried out since. Shes dove all over the NC coast but fell in love with our crystal clear water and southern dive shop charm. When shes not out on the water with us she's out and about with her pups Chompy.
He has been a part of the Slate Family for 29 YEARS! Skip is not only one of our Captains but he is also our Course Director. Skip is a SEI/NAUI/SDI-TDI/SSI instructor. Skip served in the Army, was a military diver. We don't know where we would be without Capt. Skip!
Jonnathan "Ford" Turner
He grew up in Kentucky started diving in 2004 and has been in the water ever since. A Padi diver Naui instructor and a SSI Instructor with over 6000 dives. We love having Ford apart of the Slate Family.
Our Store manager, he has been apart of the Slate Team for over 4 years! He was born is Indiana, he has lived in the Caribbean, Europe, and all over the continental US.
As a lifelong visitor of the keys, finally he made the move to make Key Largo his permanent home. Matt is a certified Sherwood technician, TDI Nitrox blender, and spent his whole life on boats!
She began her diving career in 1997 on a coral spawn, today she is an underwater photographer, Dive Master, and Ocean Conservationist. With over 5,000 dives, she has grace the cover of Sport Diver, appeared in magazines, and numerous TV shows. Annette's photography is featured in magazines, books, and fine art galleries. Annette serves on several boards to promote conservation and to fund marine science scholarships.
She passionately takes divers on the Creature Feature to offer them a greater appreciation for predators. Annette continues to encourage others to get involved and shares her love of the ocean with everyone.
